Outbound e-mail is not working
Previous  Top  Next

Spam Sleuth Enterprise should not affect outgoing e-mail. Outgoing e-mail does not need to be analyzed by Spam Sleuth Enterprise.

There are two cases where your configuration might affect outgoing e-mail:

1. When Spam Sleuth Enterprise is installed on the same computer as the e-mail server. In this case, your e-mail server must be moved to a different port. When the e-mail clients send e-mail, they use port 25 (SMTP) to send. Since Spam Sleuth Enterprise is listening on port 25, Spam Sleuth Enterprise must relay the e-mail untouched to your e-mail server, or you must change your e-mail clients to use a different port.

Solutions:
A. In SSCONFIG.EXE, choose Access List and specify the IP range for your internal computers and specify to RELAY when e-mail is sent from those IP addresses. This will cause the e-mail that is sent from e-mail clients like Outlook and Eudora to be relayed through to your e-mail server for delivery to their destinations.
B. In each of the e-mail clients, set the SMTP port to be the port where your e-mail server is running.

2. When outside clients send e-mail, they may be going to the Spam Sleuth Enterprise computer instead of your e-mail server.

Solutions:
A. Give your internal e-mail server another IP address that the outside-the-firewall users can use to send e-mail. Always test to make sure your e-mail server is not an open relay.
B. Use a VPN to give your outside users and internal IP address, and then in SSCONFIG.EXE, choose Access List and specify the IP range for your internal computers and specify to RELAY when e-mail is sent from those IP addresses. This will cause the e-mail that is sent from e-mail clients like Outlook and Eudora to be relayed through to your e-mail server for delivery to their destinations.
