WebSeeker 98 v3.4 for Windows 95/98/NT
Q:  How do I add a search engine?
A:
Please follow these simple steps to add a search engine in WebSeeker, LegalSeeker or TechSeeker.
1. Open your browser and go to the Url of the search engine you wish to add.
For example: Http://www.goto.com
2. Within WebSeeker select Search from the menu bar, and click on Add Custom Search Engine.
3. The Custom Search Engine Wizard dialog box appears. The URL that is listed in your browser will appear in the text box, if it doesn't you can click on the Grab URL button or type it in yourself. When the desired URL is typed in press the Next button.
4. The 2nd step of the wizard explains that WebSeeker is going to open your browser, and in the search engine search box you'll need to type KEYWORDS. Go ahead and press Next.
5. You're web browser will open, and you need to type KEYWORDS in the search box, and activate the search. If you have completed this step correctly your browser will say Search Engine Capture Complete! Go back to WebSeeker, and continue the wizard.
6. The next slide in the wizard asks you to specify the type of search options the search engine supports. If you're not sure, select the Not Sure radio button, and click next.
7. The final step is to Name the search engine, and select a Category that you would like to place the search engine in!

Q:  How do I add a Category?
A:  You may want to create your own categories, with your own list of search engines. You can easily drag and drop search engines into other categories, but if you want to add a new Category you'll need to follow these steps.
1. Select Tools from the menu bar, and then click on Preferences. The Preferences dialog box will appear.
2. Click on the Search Engines Tab. 3. Highlight the folder that you want your folder contained in. Most likely you will select My Categories, and press the New button. A new folder appears, and you can rename it, and place search engines in your new folder by dragging and dropping search engines from the adjacent window, which contains a list of search engines.

Q:  How do I know if my computer is accessing the Internet through a proxy server? How do I find out the IP Address and Port Number of my proxy server?
A:  If your Web browser is working correctly, you can look at its configuration to see if it is configured for a proxy server.

In Netscape Navigator, select Options / Network Preferences..., then click on the Proxies tab. If No Proxies is selected, then your computer is not configured for a proxy server. If Manual Proxy Configuration is selected, you can click on View... to see the IP Address and Port Number of the proxy server.

In Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 2.0, look in the Control Panel under Internet. Select the Advanced tab and view the Proxy Server field. If you are using IE 3.0 or later, select View / Options... from within IE, then select the Connection tab. If the Connect through a Proxy Server box is selected, then your computer is configured for a proxy server. If that box is selected, you can click on Settings... to see the IP Address and Port Number of the proxy server.

Another way to determine if your computer accesses the Internet through a proxy server is to ask your Network Administrator.

Q:  Does my computer have to be connected to the Internet to start a search?
A:  If you have scheduled a WebSeeker search using the Scheduling tab on the Preferences dialog box, it will use the standard Windows 95 dialer to dial into the Internet and start your search. If you have set up WebSeeker's scheduler to start searching at a specific time, it will use the standard Windows 95 dialer to dial into the Internet and start your search. If you are not using the scheduler, WebSeeker requires that you manually make the connection to the Web before you can start searching.

Q:  How can I obtain a user manual for WebSeeker?
A:  Anyone can download the manual as a PDF file from our Web site. If you purchased WebSeeker and did not receive a printed manual, you can have one mailed to you by calling Blue Squirrel at 1-800-403-0925.

Q:  Why do I receive more results from a search engine with a manual query than when using WebSeeker?
A:  Some search engines limit the total number of pages created for a search results list. The solution in WebSeeker is to increase number of individual URLs on each search result page. To do so, select Tools / Preferences... and on the Network tab, increase the number in the Requests for Next Results field.
